Is acoustic foam enough to fix my room?
Thin foam fixes flutter echo and dresses a video background; it does not fix a room. The physics: 1–2" of open-cell foam absorbs upper-mids and highs (decently) but is nearly transparent below ~250Hz, where the actual problems — room modes, boomy bass — live. Those need 4-inch-plus mineral-wool panels and corner bass traps. Budget honestly: foam is a finishing touch, mass and thickness do the work.
Where should my first six acoustic panels go?
Two at the side-wall first-reflection points (find them with the mirror trick), one cloud above the listening position (the ceiling is the bounce everyone forgets), one on the wall behind the speakers, and two straddling the front vertical corners as bass traps. That order treats the reflections that smear imaging first, then the low-end buildup. Six well-placed panels beat sixteen scattered ones.
