Bass energy piles up in corners, where every room mode terminates. Bass traps — 4-inch-plus porous absorbers or tuned devices straddling those corners — tame modal ringing that thin panels cannot touch. In small rooms they are the highest-impact treatment after first-reflection panels, and no EQ fully substitutes: you cannot EQ a null.
