Closed-backs earn their seal for tracking (no bleed into a live mic) and noisy environments. The classic studio pattern is one of each: track closed, mix open, check on both.
Do my headphones need an amp?+
Check two numbers: impedance and sensitivity. Under ~50Ω with healthy sensitivity (100dB/mW+), any phone or interface drives them fine.
