Absorption
Turning reflections into heat inside porous material — what NRC measures.
Absorptive panels (mineral wool, fiberglass, dense foam) convert acoustic energy to heat in their pores. Effectiveness depends on thickness and air gap: a 2-inch panel works at mids and highs; bass needs 4-inch-plus traps, ideally straddling corners. NRC is the honesty number — thin decorative foam absorbs far less than its marketing implies.
