Room Mode

Dimension-locked bass peaks and nulls; the room’s own resonances.

Room modes are standing waves between parallel surfaces. The first axial mode of a dimension L (feet) lands at roughly 565/L Hz — a 12-foot room piles up energy near 47Hz and starves the seat at half-wave nulls. Modes are why the same sub sounds different in every room, and why placement and crossover work beat buying more woofers.
