Reference Level

The calibrated loudness convention mixes are checked at — around 85dB.

Film and music mixing rooms calibrate so an average signal sits near 85dB SPL at the seat, giving engineers a consistent loudness anchor. At home it is a useful ceiling, not a target: ears fatigue and neighbors exist. What matters is knowing your typical listening level, because it drives the amplifier-power math on every plate here.
