Phantom Power
+48V sent up the mic cable — condensers need it, dynamics ignore it.
Phantom power feeds +48V DC through the XLR cable to power a condenser microphone’s internal electronics. Every real interface supplies it at the press of a button. Dynamic mics don’t use it and (wired normally, balanced) aren’t harmed by it. If a condenser is silent, the 48V button is the first thing to check.
