Bit Depth

24-bit is headroom and noise floor, not “quality”.

Bit depth sets the dynamic range between the quietest and loudest capturable signal — about 144dB at 24-bit versus 96dB at 16-bit. Recording at 24-bit lets you leave generous headroom without touching the noise floor. It is not resolution in the photographic sense; a 24-bit file of a bad take is a high-headroom bad take.
