Nearfield Monitoring
Sitting close to small monitors to hear more speaker, less room.
Nearfields are designed for a 1–1.5m listening distance. Sitting close raises the ratio of direct to reflected sound, subtracting an untreated room from the equation — the entire reason home studios can mix in bedrooms. It also means a 5-inch nearfield at 1.2m tells you more truth than an 8-inch monitor pushed against the same room’s walls.
