Open-back or closed-back headphones for mixing?

Open-back, if the room is quiet enough to allow it. The open enclosure kills the sealed-cup resonances that skew bass judgments, and the wider presentation translates better to speakers. Closed-backs earn their seal for tracking (no bleed into a live mic) and noisy environments. The classic studio pattern is one of each: track closed, mix open, check on both.
